Sonnet 116

Writing about this for one of my classes. Shakespeare was a hopeless romantic, I'm convinced.

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove.
O no, it is an ever-fixèd mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;
It is the star to every wand'ring bark,
Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken.
Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks
Within his bending sickle's compass come;
Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks,
But bears it out even to the edge of doom.
If this be error and upon me proved,
I never writ, nor no man ever loved.

Awkward and Awesome

Got this idea from the adorable Sydney over at The Daybook. I'm going to try to make this a (semi) regular thing!

  • Breaking a test tube in Chem. lab right after the teacher (a substitute, no less) said to be careful
  • Trying to explain Facebook to my absent-minded-socially-awkward English professor. Try explaining the concept of "poking" without sounding like a weirdo.
  • Getting bit by some kind of invisible insect and having my foot blow up to three times its normal size
  • The girl in my Spanish class who has a tail on her backpack. Yes, a tail.
  • Same absent-minded-socially-awkward teacher asking us if malls still exist
  • Going to Walmart in a mad dash for Benadryl for said insect bite and forgetting to get the eyeliner, foundation, and engagement card I actually need
  • Fighting to stay awake in class because of said Benadryl. There were plenty of those awkward head nod things.
  • Finding the best chai tea latte in the world (Big Mike's in Denton, TX, fyi)
  • Spanish teacher practically going gaga over one of the debate questions I wrote for our class debate about Spanish
  • Finding the perfect dress (that may double as my bridesmaid's dress in an upcoming wedding) for, get this, TEN DOLLARS
  • Having a best friend happy and willing to drive through rush hour traffic just to watch Glee and eat Chipotle with me
  • Said Chipotle being free because of an awesome "just because" gift from a thoughtful boyfriend
  • Sleeping in until 10:30 on a week day

30 Day Photo Challenge: The Rest

Here are the rest of the photo challenges I need to finish the 30 Day Photo Challenge. I have wracked my brain trying to come up with a photo for each of these things, but I haven't been able to think of anything that really fits. Everything I think of seems silly, or too shallow, or leaves someone out, etc. So, here it is: I'm officially surrendering. I was unable to complete the 30 Day Photo Challenge.

Day 7: A picture of your most treasured item (for Jan. 25)
Day 14: A picture of someone you could never imagine your life without (for Feb. 1)
Day 16: A picture of someone who inspires you (for Feb. 3)
Day 21: A picture of something you wish you could forget (for Feb. 8)
Day 24: A picture of something you wish you could change (for Feb. 11)
Day 26: A picture of something that means a lot to you (for Feb. 13)

If I ever have a random burst of inspiration, maybe I'll finish it. :]

I hope everyone had better luck than I did,

Giveaways Galore

Okay, so I'm actually a really big faker. I'm not hosting a giveaway. I'm not cool enough for that. Not yet, at least.

I am, however, here to blog about a few giveaways going on right now!

  1. Head on over to Julia Noack's Photography Facebook page and "LIKE" it. Then, go to this adorable little snapshot, and go ahead and "LIKE" that, too. If you "LIKE" both of these items, you will be helping my good friends Anna and Brennen win a photography package for their upcoming June wedding. All of you Facebook users out there, I'm talking to you!
  2. I have recently become obsessed with The Daybook. I love Sydney's affordable style and stories and, let's face it, her and her hubby are just adorable. Sydney is hosting this giveaway for a LapofLuxury beanie. Head on over there to enter!
  3. Sydney is also hosting this giveaway for one of these wooden iPhone cases by Root Cases. I don't have an iPhone (I'm really in love with my Blackberry), but my brother does, so being the wonderful sister I am, I decided to enter for him. The winner will be drawn sometime this week, so head on over there before the giveaway closes.
  4. Sydney is also currently hosting this giveaway. She's a busy girl! This one is for a $150 gift certificate for THEIT. Can you please just look at the bag in Sydney's post? It's amazing. Just gorgeous. This is the one I really want to win. The giveaway closes tonight at midnight, so hurry and enter. Or don't. More chances for me to win! :]
  5. My forever fabulous sorority sister Katie over at Live Originally recently hosted this giveaway, and I'm happy to say that I was one of the three winners! I've never been big on entering blog giveaways, but this must have been the confidence boost I needed. Here's a picture of me with my prize:
Yep, I won an adorable, colorful, zippered pouch! And want to know the best part? Katie handmade it. Told you she's fabulous! Find out how to make your own pouch here. Thanks, Katie!
Good luck,

30 Day Photo Challenge: Day 17

I'm done with the 30 Day Photo Challenge, but I have a few challenges that I need to go back and do.

Day 17: A picture of something that has made a huge impact on your life recently (for Feb. 4)
Transferring from Mizzou to UNT has made a huge impact on my life in the past several months.

30 Day Photo Challenge: Day 18

I'm done with the 30 Day Photo Challenge, but I have a few challenges that I need to go back and do.

Day 18: A picture of your biggest insecurity (for Feb. 5)
I'm not sure how well this picture conveys it, but I'm terrified of being lonely. I'm a social person and usually love to be around people, but I'm perfectly content to spend some time alone. As long as I know that I have my amazing network of friends and family floating around out there somewhere, I'm perfectly fine. I'm terrified of actually being alone and having nobody there for me.

Dialect Vlog

This is my first vlog post, and I could not be more excited about it! I got this from my sorority sister Ashley over at Ashley Getting Dressed.

The list of words are:
Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

The questions are:
What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
What is the bug that curls into a ball when you touch it?
What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
What do you call gym shoes?
What do you say to address a group of people?
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
What do you call your grandparents?
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

Like I said in the video, I moved to Texas when I was four, but I learned to talk in New York and have been around heavy New York accents my entire life, so that's probably why my accent is a little odd at times.

Also, how many times can I say "basically" and "different?" Sheesh.

If anyone has any ideas about future vlogs or you happen to come across one somewhere, let me know! I enjoyed doing this, and I'd like to do more!

More to come,

30 Day Photo Challenge: Day 30

Day 30: A picture of someone you miss
I miss these beautiful ladies. A lot.

Wish List Wednesday

Fossil Stella Multifunction Rose Gold Tone Dial Watch
It's just beautiful. That's all I can say. Simply stunning.

30 Day Photo Challenge: Day 29

Day 29: A picture that can always make you smile
This picture was taken at Mizzou's 2010 Dance Marathon for Children's Miracle Network. I served on the Morale team and had a great time pumping up the crowd with my fellow Moralers. We are dressed in our rock star costumes here. Children's Miracle Network is near and dear to my heart, and Dance Marathon is such a wonderful, fun event that benefits it. I am so proud to have participated in it.

30 Day Photo Challenge: Day 28

Day 28: A picture of something you're afraid of
I have an intense fear of needles. It's actually kind of embarrassing. Shots or having blood drawn? Forget about it, I act like I'm 2 years old. I actually get clammy and light-headed when I'm around them. Like, if I walk past a blood drive or something. Sometimes it even happens if I just see one on TV. The thought of tattoos or acupuncture? Oh, no no no. I just can't handle it.

I'm fully aware of how ridiculous I am.

30 Day Photo Challenge: Day 27

Day 27: A picture of yourself and a family member
I didn't want to single out one family member, so I chose to include everyone. This photo is a throwback. It's from my show choir "goodbye show" at the end of my senior year, but I love it nonetheless. I think it's the only picture that exists of all of us together.

30 Day Photo Challenge: Day 25

Day 25: A picture of your day
I have been holed up sick in bed all day doing homework. So exciting, I know.

Just a note...
This picture is actually for today, which means I am finally all caught up. Kinda. I am "caught up" since I actually posted a picture on the day it was supposed to be posted, but, as you can tell, I have definitely skipped some challenges. I'm having a hard time finding the perfect photo for a lot of them! I'm going to work on that and attempt to really get caught up very soon.

30 Day Photo Challenge: Day 23

Day 23: A picture of your favorite book (for Feb. 10)
Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice is my favorite book, and this one from Anthropologie is just beautiful.

30 Day Photo Challenge: Day 22

Day 22: A picture of something you wish you were better at (for Feb. 9)
I wish I knew how to play the piano. Thanks to years in band and choir, I know enough to be able to read the treble line of a piece of music and bang out the notes, but my skills hardly constitute playing. I would love to be able to sit down at a piano and just play my little heart out. I really admire people who can play the piano well. I think it's such a beautiful talent to have.

30 Day Photo Challenge: Day 20

Day 20: A picture of somewhere you'd love to travel (for Feb. 7)
The three places at the top of my very long list of places I want to travel to are Rome, Greece, and Israel. I really want to go to Rome and Greece sometime in the near future if I'm able to, and I would like to make to it Israel at some point during my lifetime. Of course, I would very happily visit any area of Italy and Greece if given the chance, but Rome, Santorini, and Athens are my dream destinations.

30 Day Photo Challenge: Day 19

Day 19: A picture of you when you were little (for Feb. 6)
Cute, right? :]

I'm content with my life.

Sounds simple, but it's actually kind of a big deal. I'm in a really good place right now.

Truthfully, I didn't think I'd get here.

The past eight months or so brought about some big changes, and I didn't have much faith that I would get over them. Sure, I knew the shock factor of transferring schools would eventually wear off, but I didn't think I would be able to say that I was really happy with the way my "new life" was going.

Fortunately, I've been proved wrong. And it's the best kind of wrong I've ever been.

I've just experienced a lot of personal growth, and it's gotten me to a good place where I can honestly look around and say that I am content with where I am in my life right at this moment.

I'm in school, doing well, and enjoying my classes. I am in the process of making some great connections that will most likely (hopefully) lead me somewhere post-graduation (internship, USA Today blogging gig, etc.). I have a supportive, wonderful family. I'm in a loving relationship with my best friend that just keeps getting better. I have realized who my true friends are and those relationships continue to grow. I am much more independent now than I have ever been, and that's a good thing.

It's the last thing I expected, but I'm so content right now.

Just a thought for today,

Wish List Wednesday: Valentine's Day♥

I totally forgot to post this yesterday. Here are some of my Valentine's Day inspired gift picks!

Coach Pave Turnlock Pendant Necklace
It's hard to see in the picture, but this gold and pink stone necklace is darling. I like to keep Valentine's Day simple, so this is way overkill, but a girl can dream, right?

Star in a Classic Novel
I came across this fantastic find while doing a little gift research of my own, and I was instantly in love with the idea. As a lover of the written word, it's no secret that I love to read, and Pride and Prejudice is one of my all-time favorite love stories. This product allows you to personalize classic stories so that you and those you know become the characters. I could be Elizabeth Bennet in P&P? Yes, please.

Mug from Starbucks
I got an email a few weeks ago from Starbucks featuring this adorable Valentine's Day mug. The snail mail-inspired design is so cute. I mean, who doesn't love getting mail? Unfortunately, I have scoured every bit of the Starbucks website and have not been able to find it anywhere. No, I don't need a mug, but this along with a giftcard or some other little goody would be such a sweet (and delicious) treat.

Valentine's Day DVD
Okay, I'll admit that this isn't the greatest movie ever made, but it's a cute, fun chick flick. Plus, I saw it last Valentine's Day with my boy (and the rest of the United States), so it's a little bit sentimental, too.

Something adorable, sentimental, or homemade
Of course, anything thoughtful or sentimental from the person you love is a great gift for Valentine's Day. The price tag isn't the important part of gift-giving. You can never go wrong with a memento of a happy memory or a homemade gift.

Go ahead and celebrate the love,

30 Day Photo Challenge: Day 15

Day 15: A picture of something you want to do before you die (for Feb. 2)
I want to travel so much. I have an extensive list of places I want to visit, and one of my main goals is to experience the world. I want to spend an extended amount of time traveling around one country or several countries before I die. It will probably be harder to do this once I graduate, so I know my time is running out, but this is definitely on my bucket list.

Oh, and I just saw the "honey, I'm leaving town" thing on the photo. Ignore that. That isn't one of my goals.

February Daybook: Snowpocalypse 2011

As always, join in the Daybook fun at The Simple Woman's Daybook.

Outside my a dark night and about 6 inches of snow on the ground with ice underneath. Talk about SNOWPOCALYPSE 2011! Even us Texans are experiencing it.

I am thinking...about what I need to do to get ready for class on Monday. After having four official snow days, I'm not exactly sure where my professors will expect us to be.

I am thankful for... a dad that will spend almost 3 hours in stand still traffic on an iced-over highway to come pick me up from my dorm and bring me home just because he doesn't want me to drive.

From the learning rooms...
is a little up in the air right now. I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to be doing since the snow days have thrown everything off.

From the kitchen...
is the smell of freshly baked brownies. Yum!

I am wearing...
black Aerie yoga pants, a green GAMMA t-shirt, a powder purple sweatshirt that Tom got me from Breckenridge, and a pair of cozy socks.

I am creating... nothing at the moment, unfortunately. I actually have a crafty project I HAVE to get done some time this week. Hopefully the roads clear up so I can get to Hobby Lobby this weekend.

I am going... slightly stir crazy. Being cooped up all week in a dorm room can do that to a person.

I am reading... Moby-Dick for my American Fiction class. It's not exactly my favorite.

I am hoping... that my chemistry exam is not this Tuesday. It was supposed to be yesterday, but the university was closed for a snow day, so I'm hoping that my teacher does not reschedule it for Tuesday, which will be our first day back in class.

I am hearing... Hailee Steinfeld's interview on Jay Leno.

Around the house... is warm and cozy. My bed is calling my name.

One of my favorite things... is snow! As much trouble as it has been this week, I can never get over how beautiful it is!

A few plans for the rest of the week: Go back to campus on Sunday, go to class Monday (assuming the university isn't closed again), read like it's nobody's business, and back to work on Tuesday

Here is picture for thought I am sharing... I love this picture of my sweet Carter puppy staying warm by the fire! Photobucket

Stay warm,

I haven't done a Wednesday wish list in a while, so I thought I would post one just for kicks.

4) J. Crew Factory Wool Ribbon Ravine Dress
This is dress is timeless and appropriate for a variety of different occasions. It comes in two colors (this and a plum/wine color), and they are both stunning. Plus, it's currently marked down to $29.99 from $118. Steal of the century!

"Me and You, just us two."-Carrie to Big, SATC 2

The quote is a little cheesy, and I'm really not a fan of Carrie and Big's relationship, but it's just too cute to not use for a 2nd anniversary.

That's right, Tom and I celebrated two wonderful years together on Sunday.

I am so proud of our relationship, and am so happy that we have been together for two years and are doing better than ever, but I can't lie. I was a little sad about our anniversary because we weren't going to be together for it. Just another lovely perk of being in a long distance relationship.

Remember this? Well, let me just add it to the list of why my boyfriend is the best guy in the world.

I was upset about this weekend, so my good friends Travis and Kelsey planned to take me out to dinner. It took a little convincing (because I'd rather sit around and mope, obviously), but by the time Friday night rolled around, I was excited. After a minor incident, I got to the restaurant and chatted with Kelsey while we waited for Travis to get off of work. Finally, Travis got there, and we were just talking and waiting for our waiter to come by so we could order.

All of a sudden someone sat down at our booth in the seat right across from me.

I knew who it was. I was excited. I was speechless. I was so stunned.

TOM was there. TOM WAS HERE!

I have no idea how long I just stared at him. I knew it was him, obviously. I was just so stunned to see him there! It was the last place I would have ever expected him to be. It was almost like I couldn't place him.

I wish I had a picture of my face while I was processing all of this. It was priceless, I'm sure. I just stared at him with my jaw on the floor for who knows how long, and then I burst into tears. Anyone who knows me is completely shocked, I'm sure.

Finally, I jumped up and jumped into his arms! I couldn't believe what was happening!
I remember asking him how he got here, and not believing him when he said he flew and rented a car. If Tom can drive somewhere, he will, so the fact that he flew to see me is a big deal in itself.

I'm sure we looked ridiculous hugging and kissing in the middle of the restaurant, but I didn't care, and I still don't.

It was absolutely perfect.

A lady in the next booth actually congratulated us. I'm sure she thought we had just gotten engaged or something by the way I was acting. Once we sat down, I found out that Kelsey, Travis, and my friend Whitney had all been in on the plan. Tom had actually asked Kelsey and Travis to get me to go out, and to make sure that I still went out even after I got my ticket. Apparently our waiter was in on the surprise, too.

The whole thing is kind of a blur. I just can't believe that he did that for me. I'm pretty sure I told him that I couldn't believe he was here about 84 times this weekend.

The rest of the weekend was pretty low key. We spent a lot of time just hanging out and enjoying our time together. It was very "us," and I wouldn't want it any other way.

I don't want to say too much on here, mostly because he knows how I feel about him, but I know how lucky I am. I can't believe that I get to be with a guy like him.

It has been an incredible two years, and I'm excited for us.♥

January 30, 2009: The night we started dating
January 30, 2010: One year together
January 30, 2011: Two years together

Many more to come,
