Happy Holidays!

With everything going on this month, I almost forgot to participate in The Simple Woman's Daybook for the month of December!

Outside my window... is a dark and rainy Christmas Eve.
I am thinking... about how I should really be packing instead of doing this.
I am thankful for... realization, the payoff of hard work, and a promise.
From the kitchen... I smell the delicious scents of barbecue sauce still lingering from dinner, and baked goods that have been cooking all day.
I am wearing... a purple Phi Mu t-shirt, black Nike shorts, and gray bootie slippers. It's a really attractive ensemble.
I am creating... brownies that are baking at this very moment. I mean, they are from a box, but still. :]
I am going... to SPAIN!
I am reading... nothing at the moment, but I will start something tomorrow. I went to Barnes and Noble yesterday and can't wait to jump into my new reads!
I am praying... that everyone has a safe, happy, and healthy holiday and start to their new year.
I am hearing... the Christmas light special on TLC that my sister is watching.
Around the house... is warm and busy. It's nice having everyone home.
One of my favorite things... is winter. I love it. The cold, the food, the lights, the snow, the clothes, the festivities, and the spirit everyone is in. I'm a total winter girl.
Here is picture for thought I am sharing... This just sums everything up. Photobucket

Happy holidays to all,

Bits of My Weekend, volumes 22 and 23

Honestly, I don't know how much longer I am going to keep up with Bits of My Weekend. I always feel behind, and that bugs me. Maybe I will just start posting if and when I have stuff to post about. Maybe.

Nevertheless, I am making an attempt to get caught up before I leave for SPAIN tomorrow! Be ready for lots of stories and pictures when I get back. I am so, so, so excited.

Volume 22: December 10-12
This weekend concluded the craziest, most stressful week of my life. Finals week lasted two weeks for me this semester, so this weekend was much needed and well deserved. It was also my sister Natalie's 9th birthday!

Volume 23: December 17-19 (Well, technically until the 21)
I finished my last final at 12:30 on Thursday, packed up my room, and officially began my winter break! Finishing this semester was a great feeling, and I'm happy to say that everything paid off. I spent Friday just hanging out and packing, and I was on a plane to Columbia, Missouri on Saturday morning! It was such a great trip, and I was able to see several of my friends, which is always a treat. As always, spending time with Tom was incredible and I am reminded every day just how lucky I am to be with him.

He even planned an amazing surprise date for us! He would not tell me anything about it and I had no idea what each stop on the date was until we got there. I love surprises, but I have a hard time knowing something is happening when I don't know anything about it. I am definitely a snooper, so he had his work cut out for him. :]

All dressed up and ready to go!Photobucket
First stop: Caramel Apple Spices at Starbucks--- We went to Starbucks and then walked around downtown Columbia just talking and window shopping while we waited for the restaurant to open. I love walking around in the cold weather and seeing all the Christmas lights/displays in the store windows!Photobucket
Next stop: Dinner at Geisha--- Tom and I love sushi, and we generally go to Osaka in Columbia. Tom went to Geisha in a downtown Columbia a few months ago and liked it and knew that I was dying to try it, so he decided to take me there! It was delicious and had such a great date atmosphere!Photobucket
Next stop: The Magic Tree--- The Magic Tree is a tree in Columbia covered in thousands of Christmas lights, and I LOVE it! I mentioned a few weeks ago that I wanted to go see it when I was in town, but I kind of forgot about it. Of course, Tom remembered and surprised me! I had no idea where we were going until we turned the corner and the tree was right there. We only stayed for a few minutes because it was super cold and we had another mystery activity to get to, but we were able to snap a few pictures!PhotobucketPhotobucket
Final stop: Ice skating at the outdoor rink in Forest Park--- Tom told me the next stop would be a little bit of a drive from the Magic Tree, so I assumed we were going to Jeff City or something. I could not have been more wrong! We just kept driving and driving and he finally told me we were going ALL the way to ST. LOUIS! I seriously freaked out! I had no idea what we were doing and the only hint he would give me was "Steinberg", which meant nothing to me at the time. I now know that it is the name of the outdoor ice skating rink in Forest Park. I almost cried when we pulled into the parking lot at the ice skating rink! It was so pretty! There were twinkly lights everywhere and Christmas music was playing. It was the PERFECT winter date and such a surprise!PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket
It was the best date I have ever been on, hands down. Seriously perfect.

Since I got back on Tuesday, I have been visiting with friends and relaxing. Now it is time to pack and get ready to leave tomorrow afternoon for Spain! I hate packing with a passion, but this trip makes it pretty worthwhile.

Suggestions Needed

In preparation of my trip to Spain and a ridiculous amount of time on an airplane, I am planning a trip to Barnes and Noble. I love to read and don't have time to do it during the school year, so I am excited to pick up a few great books for the next few weeks. I am thinking about finally attempting my goal of reading all of Jane Austen's novels, but, as much as I love her, I have to be in a certain mood to enjoy her stuff. I already have a few books in mind, but I definitely need suggestions! If you read something and loved it, let me know! Also, if you thought any of the books on my list sucked, let me know that too.

Thanks,
Sara

Accomplishment

I am DONEEEEE!!!

I am officially finished with my first semester at UNT.

Weird? Satisfying? I'm not sure yet.

This month-long winter break is well deserved. My workload this semester was much more than it has been in the past. My emotional load was much heavier.

The end of this semester signifies many things. I know for sure that being an English major is the right thing for me. I am much more independent than I ever thought. I made it through one of the biggest changes and struggles I have ever been faced with.

I did it. I'm okay. And I'm two semesters away from graduating.

That's a lot to digest for one night. It's a lot to think about, but I did it. Talk about a sense of accomplishment.

More to come,
Sara

Tonight

Tonight is my night to relax, breath, and sleep. Oh, glorious Sleep, how I have missed you so. After one of the most stressful, demanding, hectic weeks of my life, I am finally getting a second to just be.

Let me give you a break down of the past week:
  • last Thursday: Rhetoric presentation
  • Monday: Biology paper due
  • Tuesday: Rhetoric research paper due
  • Wednesday: Biology Lab final exam at 10:30am, Yiddish Literature final exam essays due
  • Thursday: Spanish Literature paper due, Rhetoric notebook project due

Who knew finals began the week before finals week?

Even though I am taking a break tonight, I still have a lot on my plate for the last week of classes before a lovely, glorious, month-long winter break.
  • Tomorrow (Friday): Shakespeare research paper due by midnight
  • Monday: Biology extra credit essays due, Biology Lecture exam at 1:30pm
  • Tuesday and Wednesday: Study like crazy
  • Thursday: Rhetoric exam at 8:00am, Spanish Literature exam at 10:30am

On Friday, I pack up, leave my dorm, and hop on a plane to CoMo the next morning!

But tonight, I sleep.

More to come,
Sara

Happy Hanukkah!

Hanukkah is wrapping up and I must say I had a very enjoyable holiday! My aunt and grammy were in town for Thanksgiving, so we celebrated the first night of Hanukkah while they were here, even though it was a little early. It was a nice treat to be able to celebrate with family that I haven't seen in a while!

I am lucky that I had several of my wish list wishes come true! I thought I would go through my past wish lists and pick out the things I got as gifts. :]

I got a few pairs of pj pants, similar to these. My mom pretty much rocks and got me this necklace that I have been dying for! It has been sold out for a while, so she must have gotten it as soon as I put it on my wish list. I got several of the items from this post, including the button-front rosette cardigan, the pieced lace top in navy, a gray argyle sweater, and some brown leggings. I also got the mukluk slippers from the same post and I absolutely love them! They are so warm and cozy. I got another gift that I absolutely love: my boots from this post! They are amazing.

I also got some money/giftards, Vera Bradley notecards, note set, and cosmetic bag, an amazing makeup kit from ULTA, a travel journal (that I need an occasion to use!), some chocolate, leather gloves, Halle Berry perfume, a cute set of cosmetic/bathroom cases, a heavy duty ice scraper for my car (because all Texans need one hahah), a cute travel mug, and a few other things.

I would say it was a successful holiday! Thank you to everyone! :]
Now I need to buy holiday and birthday gifts for other people. I think I enjoy giving gifts as much as I enjoy getting them.

I PROMISE a nice long post about my life recently is coming. I have 1 project, 4 tests, and 5 papers to do in the next 2 weeks, so I am extremely busy. It sucks.

In the meantime, I'll leave you with this. My stepmom emailed it to me a few days ago.
