Lots to be Thankful For

I have lots to be thankful for!  I had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with great family, great food, and lots of laughs.  Tom is in town, which makes everything about a million times better!!!  I love this time of the year and it is always nice to be reminded of how lucky and I am and just how much I have to be thankful for.  A longer update is coming, but I just wanted to post quickly and wish everyone a happy (late) Thanksgiving!

Wish List Wednesday

I think every girl has had the dilemma of not owning an evening bag at some point or another.  This black clutch from Old Navy is stylish and inexpensive.  You can never go wrong with basic, classic black!
Women's Black Clutch from Old Navy

I am suffering from a serious cardigan obsession.  I think they are a great way to make summer clothing cool-weather appropriate.  Unfortunately, I own one cardigan.  Yes, one.  Old Navy is offering a ton of different styles and colors this season, all stylish and all inexpensive.  I would love to have cardigans in a variety of styles and colors.  This is an example of one that I like, however I wouldn't want it in black.
Women's Ruffle-Tier Jersey Cardigan

My dorm room tends to be freezing cold, so at cute pair of pajama pants would be awesome!  I already have a blue pair of these and I love them!  Another color in a size medium would be perfect!
Aerie Slouchy Plaid PJ Pants

I actually really do like bright colors, so I apologize for everything being black this week.

November Daybook

I am excited to take part in the November edition of The Simple Woman's Daybook!  I encourage you all to participate!

Outside my a beautiful, cool, sunny day!  I'm thankful for the sunshine, especially since it was so rainy and overcast early this morning.

I am thinking...about where I am going to live next fall.  I will be a senior in college, so I want to finally live off campus, but I'm graduating a semester early (in December), so maybe it's not worth it.  Ugh.

I am thankful for...the internet.  I'm actually being serious.  Our lives are made infinitely easier by the internet every single day.

I am wearing...plaid pj pants and a long sleeve gold Mizzou shirt.  I just got back from class and changed back into my pajamas to do my homework. :]

I am remembering...that I really need to get going on my research papers that are due in the next few weeks.  I want to completely finish one before Tom gets here next week (YAYYYY!!!) and have a good chunk of the other one done.

I am post this and then get to work on the blog posts I have to write today for my internship.  I get to work from home today woohooooo!

I am currently reading...nothing.  I just finished reading The Tempest for my Shakespeare class.  I guess I'm technically reading "La Casa de Bernarda Alba" by Federico Garcia Lorca for my Spanish literature class, but that's not exactly what I consider pleasurable reading.

I am hoping...that Tom's drive from Columbia, Missouri to Dallas goes smoothly and that he makes it here safely!

On my a list of tasks and things I need to do before Thanksgiving.

Noticing that...I suddenly had thousands of dollars to my name would be a real treat!

Pondering these words...that I've heard about the future and "the real word" after college.  The transition from being a college student to an independent adult seems impossible!  It's scary and incredibly overwhelming.

From the kitchen...I don't smell or see anything, because I don't have a kitchen in my dorm.  I do, however, get SO excited when I think about all of the yummy food I am going to enjoy with family next week!  Green bean casserole is my favorite!

Around the house..., well around my dorm room, is finally (somewhat) clean.  I put all of my clothes, shoes, and other crap away, so now all I need to do is vacuum and a few other things.

One of my favorite snow!  I hope we get some this winter!

From my picture journal...I seriously love this girl and I am sending a big hug to her all the way in Houston!

Also, my sorority sister Ashley is having a giveaway on her outfit of the day blog, Ashley Getting Dressed.  One lucky winner will receive a $55 gift card to the CSN network of stores just in time for the holidays!  Click on the links for more information and to enter.

Bits of My Weekend, volume 18

Well, I did it.  I survived the craziest, most stressful week ever.  After having a Spanish poetry exam on Tuesday, a biology exam on Wednesday, a rhetoric exam on Thursday, and a proposal for my Shakespeare research paper due on Friday, this weekend was well-deserved and couldn't have come fast enough.  This week absolutely wore me out, but there was an up side to having so many tests in one week.  It gave me the opportunity to study with people in my classes.  I spent Wednesday night and all day Friday studying and working with a few people in my class.  As lame as it sounds, this was my first time really socializing with anyone new, so I was grateful for it.  Hopefully this opened the door and we can all hang out in the future. :]

In between everything I had going on this week, I managed to make it home on Thursday night to see my sister play Aristotle in her third grade play about the solar system.  It was adorable and she did such a good job!  Sorry the picture sucks.  I went right from work to her school and didn't have my camera with me.

Luckily, I didn't have to work on Friday since my bosses were at a convention, so I was able to devote my entire day to working on my research paper proposal, rather than having to stress about it all week while trying to get everything else done.  I spent the entire day in the library.  I had a good topic in mind and started to write my paper about that, but finding credible sources turned out to be a near-impossible task, so I ended up changing my topic.  Once I did that, everything was much easier.  I'm frustrated that it took so long, but I ended up writing a paper that I am proud of.  Hopefully my teacher feels the same.  I left the library after submitting my paper around 11:35pm (the deadline was midnight), and then I went back to my room and passed out.  The stress of the week absolutely wore me out.

I spent most of Saturday just hanging out and being a complete lazy bum.  I probably should have been doing homework or something constructive, but I just couldn't make myself.  I needed a break.  I went to see "Due Date" with my friend Chelsea last night.  It was pretty funny and I really enjoyed it!  We went to a small party at one of her sorority sister's apartments after the movie.

I slept until about 1pm today, but I thoroughly cleaned my room this afternoon to make up for it.  I even got a little homework done today, too.  My dad, stepmom, and brother came to Denton to have dinner with me tonight.  I like when I get to have dinner with my family.  Not only do we usually go out to a yummy restaurant that my broke college self can't afford, but I almost always end up having leftovers for dinner during the week.  I have some yummy shrimp, a baked potato, and biscuits from Red Lobster to have for dinner tomorrow night!  Oh, and I like seeing my family, too.  :]

I'll just be hanging out, watching E!, and doing some homework tonight.  This week will be infinitely easier than last week, thank goodness.  I have a research paper due next Wednesday (Nov. 24), but I am going to get it done this week since Tom will be here next (YAYYYYYYYYYYYY).  I am so, so, so excited to see him!  I can't believe it's one week away!!!

I'll leave you with this picture.  Not because it's from this weekend, but because it's something out of the ordinary.  We looked at it in my biology lab and I was completely disgusted.  I did handle it a little better than I thought I would, but I definitely did not touch it.  A pat on the back to anyone who can guess what it is, and no, you can't tell if I already told you.

Have a good week,

Wish List Wednesday

I thought of something I have really wanted for a long time.  Finally!  There have been booths selling these in some of the local malls around here for quite some time.  I don't know exactly what to call them, but they are framed words made up of pictures.  They look like this: Photobucket

Now do you know what I'm talking about?  Anyways, I have wanted one ever since I first saw them.  A lot of people get their names or their family's name, but I don't think I would want that.  I think I would want some other word like "love" or something like that.  I found this website where you can design your own word by picking the letters you like and then matting and framing it.  I like black and white letters and the black frame.  There are probably a ton of other websites that offer the same product, but this one seemed to offer a lot of freedom to choose exactly what you want for a reasonable price.  I am SO happy I finally thought of something I really want!

On a completely unrelated note, I am on the American Eagle email list (for some unknown reason) and came across this necklace, which is pretty similar to this one that I am in love with.  I don't like the American Eagle one as much as I like the one from The Limited, but it would be a good alternative since the one that I love has been sold out for a while.

Also, I like these, and I actually do need new black flats.

If I could survive this week, that would be excellent, as well.

Bits of My Weekend, volume 17

This weekend was super low key, except for the fact that I had a ridiculous amount of homework to do.  I have a test or something due every day this coming week.  Ugh.

I am spending most of today studying at Panera.  I love the jazz music they play here.  Plus, I'm convinced their coffee is better than Starbucks, in taste, price, and presentation.

Have a good week,

Wish List Wednesday

I realize it's not Wednesday, but oh well.  I haven't blogged in a while and this post was already in the works.

I have decided that I do not like the purse that I put on my last wish list.  In fact, I think I hate it.  I do however, really, really like this one.  It's exactly what I'm looking for and I've already checked it out in person, so I know that it will work for me.

Actually, I would really love this one.  It's completely beautiful, but completely out of my reach.  There is a Coach outlet store not too far from where I live, but I am pretty sure the price at the outlet is still more than I can spend on a purse at this moment in time.
Oh, if only.

I have been having a really hard time coming up with things I want.  Well, that's not entirely true.  I have been having a really hard time coming up with things that I want that aren't clothes or shoes.  I just really need to go shopping for some fall/winter pieces!  I think that would solve all of my problems.

I have been looking around for things to add to my holiday wish list and, I must admit, the results of my research are somewhat random.

1) Stella & Dot Love Script Necklace
This necklace is so delicate and feminine!

2) A massage/spa treatment
Every girl loves to be pampered! :]

3) Fossil Maddox Three Hand Champagne Dial Watch (Rose Gold)
This rose gold colored watch is just gorgeous!  It's perfect for the fall and winter and is timeless, so it will never go out of style.

I have been racking my brain trying to come up with things I want, but I am having a really hard time.  Suggestions are always welcome, and in this case, encouraged! :]

Bits of My Weekend, volumes 15 and 16

The past two weeks have been...weird.  Between midterms, work, a health scare, and recovering, I haven't had much time to think straight, let alone blog.  I apologize and will attempt to get caught up over the next few days.

I don't even know where to start.  I have officially been working at my internship for two weeks.  I like it and I definitely think I am learning a lot.  I just need to get used to writing so much in one chunk of time.  Most Tuesdays and Thursdays, I write and publish 4 to 5 blogs, most of which require research.  I work all day on Fridays and write around 7 blogs and do some other random tasks.  I'm getting the hang of it, so hopefully I will become more productive as time goes on!

Last weekend (Friday, October 29) was pretty quiet.  I worked all day, which is something else I will need to get used to since I have have grown accustomed to having Fridays off.  I just hung out on campus for Friday night and most of Saturday.  I had a little scare on Saturday, though.  After getting out of the shower, I was extremely dizzy and nauseous, and to make a long story short, I blacked out.  When I blacked out, I fell and hit my nose/head on my bathroom door.  After a few minutes, the sick feeling passed and I was fine, but it was SO scary!  I didn't know if I had seriously hurt myself or why I felt bad in the first place.  It also made me realize that I am completely alone here in my dorm.  I'm sure my suite mate would come in if I was screaming hysterically or something (or at least I hope she would), but if I got really hurt, nobody would know.

After I recovered and was feeling better, I went to my friend Kelsey's house to watch the Mizzou homecoming football game.  Kelly, another one of our Phi Mu sisters, also came.  It was so good to see both of them!  Mizzou was playing OU, who was ranked #1, so in addition to this being Homecoming, this was a big game.  Mizzou ended up WINNING and everyone in the stadium rushed the field!  Kelsey and I were jumping up and down and screaming!  It was an awesome game to watch, but I wish I could have been there.  I'm so jealous everyone rushed the field!

I spent Sunday morning with my dad and stepmom since my dad had just gotten home from China.  He brought me back beautiful hand-strung pearls.  They are beyond gorgeous.  I spent the rest of the weekend just hanging out and doing homework and stuff.

I spent most of last week battling with the worst headache I have ever had in my life.  I still wasn't sure why I blacked out and I was nervous that I had really hurt my head when I fell, just because of the level of pain I was in.  My nose bruised a little and hurt when I touched it.  In addition to the headache, my neck and body were incredibly achy and stiff.  By Wednesday, I couldn't take it anymore and decided to go to the health center.  The doctor looked around and felt my face and neck, but didn't really have any constructive information for me, so I left without any reassurance.  I decided to go to the emergency room that night.  I ended up getting a CT scan on my head and neck, an EKG, and blood work done.  To make a long story short, everything came back normal.  Nothing was cracked in my face and nothing was injured when I fell.  The doctor seemed to think that the hot shower caused my blood pressure to drop, which in turn caused me to feel nauseous and black out.  Unfortunately, they couldn't do anything about the headache, but they reassured me that it would go away on it's own.

By Friday night, I felt fine.  The headache finally went away and my body felt normal again.  The whole thing was just bizarre.

Last weekend, I went to Houston with my dad and stepmom.  It was a pretty last minute trip.  My brother's high school marching band had a competition in Conroe, so my dad suggested that I go with them and he would take me to see my friend Whitney in Houston, which is about an hour further.  I  jumped at the chance to see Whitney!  We spent Saturday and Sunday just hanging out and laughing, like we always do.  I seriously love that girl!

I feel somewhat caught up now.  I feel like I covered all of the big things from the past two weeks.  This coming week is going to be absolutely insane for me, but I will try my best to post at least once.  I feel like a blog post with some substance is coming.  I can feel the wheels turning in my head.

On a happy note, Six in the City has made its triumphant, long-awaited return.  No Bits of My Weekend post yet, but I'm sure one will be up soon!

P.S. First Starbucks holiday cup of the season = reason to smile!

P.P.S. Phi Mu ended up placing third in the talent section of Homecoming!  My good friend and old roommate, Elizabeth, won best actress for all of Greek life!  I'm so proud of you ladies!
